Visiting

On arrival you will be given a map showing the layout of the garden and arboretum.

Two or three hours can easily be lost in a leisurely walk. The terrain is quite rough, and is not particularly suitable for the disabled. We suggest wearing sturdy shoes or wellington boots for your visit. Please also wear suitable clothing for wet weather conditions.

There will be tea, coffee and cakes available during the afternoon in the Visitor Centre, at extra cost. Directions to Thenford will be sent with your tickets.

Picnics are not allowed anywhere in the grounds, including the churchyard. Sadly we are unable to accommodate dogs and children under 10 years.

The arboretum is set within the village of Thenford, Northamptonshire despite having an Oxfordshire postcode. We recommend you arrive with plenty of time in order to make the most out of your visit.

Satellite Navigation

The postcode for sat nav is OX17 2BX, which will take you into the village. There will be signs directing you to the car park or coach park. Because of a low overhang on the main drive gates, coaches will need to park in the farmyard, which is the turning left just after the main gates. Someone will be there to
direct you.

From the south, west and north, leave the M40 at Banbury Junction (Junction 11). Follow the A422 Brackley/Buckingham Road. At the next roundabout take 3rd exit staying on the A422 (sign-posted Farthinghoe, Brackley).

After about 1 ½ miles take the first turning on your left, which is signposted to Middleton Cheney.

Take the first turning on your right (The New Inn pub will be on your left), signposted Thenford. Follow this road for about 1.5 miles and then turn right at the small crossroads into Thenford Village.

Coming from the east, follow the A422 from Brackley. Drive through Farthinghoe. After about 1 ½ miles you will see a turning on the right to Thenford – please ignore this road as it is single track. Carry on for about another mile and take the next turning on the right signposted Middleton Cheney. Then follow the directions as above in italics.

Public transport

There is no public transport to the village but the nearest rail station is Banbury,
which is approximately a 10 minute drive to the arboretum.

Taxis

We recommend Castle Cars in Banbury, they are based at Banbury train station Tel: 01295 270 011
